India must start the season positively, says Gambhir
India opening batsman Gautam Gambhir is looking forward to the ODI series against Sri Lanka starting this month, saying they are eager to get the season off to a cracking start.
Gambhir, speaking after a practice session for the team ahead of the trip to Sri Lanka, said that while they had been out of the game for over two months, they were ready for the challenge.
The 30-year-old said: "When everyone is available, you can put your best team on the park. And when you have everyone available, you can start the season on a good note and carry that (momentum) forward.
"It is very important because you don't want to start a season on a bad note. You want to start on a positive note and hopefully we can do it in Sri Lanka.
"But as I have said, you can't take Sri Lanka lightly, they are a formidable side."
The Lankans are coming off a victorious set of series against Pakistan, where they won the ODI and test rounds and drew the two-match T20 effort 1-1.
The first of five ODIs between India and Sri Lanka takes place at Hambantota on Saturday, and the only T20I is on 7 August.
