Flo Simba has worked his “butt off” to shed pounds for his new career as a cruiserweight, which begins against Danie Bruwer at Emperors Palace next Saturday.

Simba, who was knocked out by Fransie Botha and Danie Venter at heavyweight last year, is one of the eight boxers who will feature in promoter Rodney Berman’s Super 8 Series, which he has dubbed Last Man Standing.

Eight cruiserweights will slug it out in eight bouts to determine an overall winner who will pocket R400,000.

Simba and Bruwer, fighting to settle the ultimate seeding for the Super 8s, meet on the undercard of Tommy Gun Oosthuizen defending his IBO super-middleweight crown against Serge Yannick.

The winner will be seeded fourth and the loser, as long as he doesn’t lose badly, will be ranked seventh.

Simba lost about 7kg to make the 90.7kg cruiserweight limit. “I’ve trained my butt off – literally.

Top seed is Zack Mwekassa, followed by Thabiso Mchunu and then Venter, who is also returning to cruiserweight where he started his professional career in

The fifth and sixth seeds are Tshepang Mohale and Johnny Muller, both former SA light-heavyweight champs. The eighth man in the ring is Ghanaian Daniel Adotey Allotey.

The first round of fights, over eight rounds, will be held on June 16. The semifinals, over 10 rounds, are slated for September and the final, over 12 rounds, for November.
