A full postseason share for each member of the 2011 World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals was worth over $323 000, up 1,7% from last year’s payout, Major League Baseball (MLB) said on Monday.
The runner-up Texas Rangers dispersed more than $251 000 for those voted a full share, up 2% from 2010.
The players’ bonus pool, formed from 60% of gate receipts from the first three games of the Division Series and 60% of gate receipts from the first four games of the League Championship series and the World Series, amounted to more than $57 million and was divided among 12 clubs.
St. Louis awarded 51 full shares of their $20,6 million haul, 12 partial shares and eight lesser cash awards, while Texas handed out 47 full shares, 6,5 partial shares and 19 cash awards from their $13,8 million portion of the proceeds.
Money was split up, in diminishing order, between all playoff teams as well as second-place teams that failed to qualify for the postseason.
