An eight goal thriller gave the South African women’s hockey side a 5-3 win over Belgium that helped them win the Tri-Nations Series in Randburg on Wednesday night.
A brace each from Kate Woods and Dirkie Chamberlain, and a single strike from Kathleen Taylor helped the hosts clinch the trophy.
For the European visitors, Stephanie de Groof, Sofie Gierts and Charlotte de Vos were on target.
The scores were deadlocked at 2-2 at the interval break.
South Africa now have eight log points from their four matches, while Belgium have four points and Ireland one point.
Thursday night’s clash between the Belgians and Ireland at the same venue will be the final encounter of the competition.
The Irish fly home immediately after the match leaving South Africa and Belgium to tackle each other in a separate, two-Test series at the weekend.
The South Africans then have a few days rest before flying to India for the crucial Olympic Qualifier Tournament in Delhi from February 15.
They must win the gold medal in the event in order to gain automatic entry to the London 2012 Olympic Games in July.
