Oscar Pistorius accidentally shoots his girlfriend: report

Paralympian athlete Oscar Pistorius allegedly accidentally shot dead his girlfriend at his house in Pretoria on Thursday morning, Beeld.com reported.

He had mistaken her for a robber, the Afrikaans daily reported on its website. The incident occurred at around 4am.

Police spokeswoman Captain Sarah Mcira confirmed she was shot in the arm and head. She died on the scene.

Pistorius has been taken into custody and will appear in the Pretoria magistrates court later on Thursday.

The media have been denied access from the Silverwoods Country Estate where the incident took place.

Coroners left the estate with the body at 8.30am where Pistorius was still on the scene as police questioned him. According to reports he was still in severe shock.
