Sleepy JP left on plane by teammates

THE media were invited to a briefing with Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer at associate sponsor BMW's Rosslyn plant this week. Apart from picking the coach's brain, the media got to observe how the 3 Series gets put together. It was riveting.

A BRAND manager of a product for which we pay sin tax this week introduced himself to someone he thought he'd met before. Head tilting, eyes squinting, he said: "I'm sure we've met before, you look familiar." Then it dawned that the man shaking his hand was Jonathan Kaplan.

BOK wing JP Pietersen clearly exhausted himself against the Cheetahs last week. On arrival in Johannesburg on Sunday, his teammates had to wait on the airport bus for Pietersen's "disembarkation". He fell asleep on the flight and not even the bumpy landing woke him. It was left to the cabin crew to do so. His teammates won't let him forget it.

THE impasse around the Kings that has seemingly paralysed rugby bosses was avoidable. They clearly haven't exhausted all their options. The less-floated idea of lumping the Lions with the Kings begs closer scrutiny. For one, they'll have a catchy name: the Lion Kings.

REFEREE Mark Lawrence dropped a hint about how he views the Bulls' away strip. Dean Greyling was pushing the boundaries at a breakdown when Lawrence admonished him: "Yes you, the big loosehead in the pink."

A CORPORATE hospitality outfit is punting a suite at FNB Stadium for the Boks v All Blacks match on October 6 for R3495 a person. For that you get a fully staffed suite, snacks, a three-course buffet meal and a "full premium open bar". Unless your guests have a taste for Johnny Blue, that's a steep mark-up on prime seats likely to be around R600.
