Injury scare for Frans
FRANS Steyn rolled an ankle in training yesterday, which cast a cloud over his participation in Saturday's Four Nations test against the Wallabies at Loftus.
Steyn will in all likelihood be given until tomorrow to prove his fitness. Should he not recover, the Boks will go into the test with a reconfigured midfield, as captain Jean de Villiers will probably revert to inside centre, paving the way for Juan de Jongh at 13.
"We've taken him for X-rays and those are clear," said team doctor Craig Roberts. "We'll have to make a decision on his availability depending how he responds to treatment in the next day or two."
The Boks are carrying a surprisingly high number of injuries. Flip van der Merwe has a mild calf strain, while Johan Goosen has a bruised left heel, which should bolster Morne Steyn's chances of another start .
The week and a bit since the defeat by the All Blacks has brought no fresh perspective to coach Heyneke Meyer. Instead, he is emboldened by what he saw in the review of the 21-11 defeat, which means the Boks will be similar in approach and personnel.
