Sharks loose forward Keegan Daniel has replaced Jean Deysel as the Durban outfit's captain for the rest of the Currie Cup season.

Daniel was the Sharks' captain during last season's Currie Cup and their Super Rugby campaign earlier this year but coach John Plumtree appointed fellow back-rower Deysel as the team's leader when Daniel was called up to the Springboks squad at the start of the Rugby Championship.

He was discarded from the Bok set-up after their matches against Argentina and has subsequently returned to the Sharks where he has played in their recent matches against Griquas and the Free State Cheetahs.

Plumtree said giving Daniel the captaincy again was an effort to take pressure off Deysel whose style of play means he deals with plenty of physical pressure.

"The decision is one made for the team as well as for Jean Deysel's benefit," he told the Sharks' official website.

"Because of the way we have to rehab his body after each game with the high impact role he plays, with the number of collisions he is involved in, he often misses team work which has to happen in the time that we are looking after his body.

"For that reason, my decision has gone back to having Keegan as the captain, there is no other reason behind this.

"Keegan is more than happy to captain the side, he is the Super Rugby captain, and that change will be from this weekend."
