All Blacks lock Luke Romano could miss out on the opening rounds of the Rugby Championship because of a shoulder injury.

The Crusaders star was forced off the pitch early on during his side's Super Rugby semi-final loss to the Chiefs at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton on Friday.

And despite being included in the All Blacks' wider training group, Romano may struggle to be fit for Tests against the Wallabies in Sydney and Auckland on August 18 and 25 respectively.

"I think it is quite serious, he could be out for three to four weeks," said Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder.

"He popped an AC and they are painful, there was no way he could have played on and we really missed his physicality."
