Bundesliga club Hamburg will have to accelerate their search for a new manager after it emerged caretaker boss Rodolfo Cardoso must step down.
The German Football League (DFL) have turned down the German outfit's request to allow Cardoso to carry on in a caretaker capacity due to the fact that he does not hold a coaching licence.
Cardoso has been in charge for the past 15 days following the dismissal of Michael Oenning, but will not be given special dispensation to continue in his role.
A statement from the DFL read: "The DFL has not granted Hamburger SV's wishes of an exception in the case of Cardoso.
"The DFL does not see any special conditions which would justify an extension of the 15-day grace period and a consequent exception to the statutes."
