Valencia aiming for No7 glory
Antonio Valencia is raring to go after being given Manchester United's legendary No7 shirt, saying he wants to write his own history.
The 26-year-old made a request to Sir Alex Ferguson to wear the famous shirt, which was worn by Michael Owen before his departure during the off-season.
United icons Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Eric Cantona and George Best all wore the jersey for the English giants, and Valencia realises he has big boots to fill if he wants to make his era at the club a success.
The Ecuadorian played a pivotal role for United last season and despite being pipped by rivals Manchester City to the Premier League title, Valencia is excited about his team's prospects for the new campaign.
"I'm excited to be wearing the no.7 shirt in the coming season. It's a number I really respect because so many great players have worn the shirt and made history for Manchester United in it. Now I hope I can write my own," he told the club's official website.
"It's a new adventure but it's something that I'm very relaxed about and also humbled by."
He added: "All the players are feeling good about the new season and there is a great team spirit amongst everyone.
"I love being part of this team. I have some good friends here and I laugh a lot with guys like Evra, Nani, Anderson, Bebe and Chicharito.
"Everybody in the group has a laugh together but when we have to work, we take things seriously.
"I'd love us to win all the competitions we play in, particularly the Premier League and Champions League."
