Manchester United have been boosted with the news that Ashley Young and Chris Smalling are in line to return from injury for the game against Stoke City on October 20.
Antonio Valencia is also said to be close to full fitness and could start against the Potters after having come off the bench in the 3-0 win over Newcastle before the international break.
Smalling's return would be of special significance to Sir Alex Ferguson who has battled with a series of injuries to his defenders, including Nemanja Vidic's long-term absence.
Smalling has not played this season, having injured his metatarsal in pre-season training back in July, which followed the groin injury that saw him miss England's Euro 2012 campaign.
Young's last game for the Red Devils was the 3-2 victory over Fulham at Old Trafford in August, when he damaged a cartilage in his knee.
