Balotelli 'deserves a lot of slaps'
Paolo Di Canio has blasted Mario Balotelli for his "selfish" play during Euro 2012 as Italy lost 4-0 to Spain in the final.
Balotelli was the star performer with his two goals as the Azzurri defeated Germany 2-1 in the semi-finals but the Swindon boss feels the Manchester City striker is not a team player.
Balotelli has often made the headlines for his off-field antics but looked to have put that behind him during the tournament in Poland and Ukraine.
The 21-year-old scored three goals in total and impressed with his all-round play but that didn't stop the outspoken Di Canio from singling out his country-man.
Di Canio told the Sun: "Balotelli is just selfish. He deserves a lot of slaps.
"Against Germany he did two good things but in the end I saw a player who was just waiting to celebrate.
"Balotelli does not play for the team, only for himself.
"He is an egotist, who thinks the world revolves around him.
"Guys like Balotelli deserve lots of slaps rather than pats on the shoulder. Antonio Cassano led the team to the final."
