Former Bafana midfielder Eric Tinkler and Wits University development coach Ashley Makhanya have been appointed as interim coaches at Wits following the sacking of Roger de Sa late yesterday.

The club did not reveal the reasons why they "parted ways" with De Sa, with general manager George Mogotsi only saying more information would be provided before the end of the week.

However, it is believed his dismissal might have something to do with an alleged domestic violence scandal that De Sa has been embroiled in over the past few weeks, indirectly denting the image of the club.

De Sa was not so long ago seen by Wits management as the man to lead the new-look club into the new season. But all this has changed, and the search for a new technical team has already begun.

The Clever Boys have already signed Matthew Pattison (free agent), Tinashe Nengomasha, Tlou Molekwane and Thomas Sweswe from Kaizer Chiefs.

Former Bafana skipper Aaron Mokoena is also believed to be the next target.

Wits finished 12th last season, at a time when De Sa doubled up as the club's chief executive.

Yesterday, the club announced that De Sa's contract would be terminated "with immediate effect".

De Sa has had an on-and-off relationship with the Clever Boys before, having enjoyed his first spell with the side between 2001 and 2005.

He failed to save the club from relegation in 2005 and vacated the head coach position to take up a similar role at Santos.

De Sa returned two years later and was at the helm when Wits won the 2010 Nedbank Cup, beating Amazulu 3-0 at FNB Stadium.

  • The fixture list for the new Absa Premier League season is likely to be released within a week.

A draft list was sent to all 16 PSL clubs last week to confirm venues and dates.

A final consolidation of the list will be implemented once the clubs have given their input.
