SOUTH African football chiefs have apologised to the country's Olympic committee for an attack by one of its members on the committee.
Mzwandile Maforvane, an executive member of the South African Football Association, said this week that senior members of the South African Olympic Committee were "enriching themselves" with money from the National Lottery Board that was meant for sport.
Maforvane also criticised the Olympic committee board member Mahomed Mubarak, who will lead an investigation of Safa, including Bafana Bafana's failure to qualify for the 2012 Afcon finals.
The association has distanced itself from Maforvane's letter, which was written on its letterhead.
"I have sent a letter to [the committee] apologising. Mr Maforvane's views do not represent Safa," said the association's CEO Robin Petersen.
It is understood Safa will also send a letter of apology to Sport and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula and Mubarak.
Mubarak is reportedly seeking legal action. Maforvane could not be reached for comment.
